My Ohio trip, thus far..............GAW!
Posted to Facebook last night at ~9:00 p.m., after nearly 18 hours on the road to make a 11 hour trip;
"Okay, we're finally here in Warren, Ohio. Left VA at 3:45 a.m......Man, what a mess! First, we had a flat on I-64 near Glen Allen. Of course you don't get a spare with some cars- these days-----Like the one I bought. And the damage is too bad to pump it up with the little compressor kit they put in the trunk. So, we had to call AAA for a tow. I takes the Dude over an hour to show, then he tells us they told him to tow it to Maryland! WTF? Maryland? So, I get him to scratch that nonsense and take us to the nearest tire shop, where I find out the tires on this beast run $288 A PIECE. And, of course they don't have any at the store. Gotta send a guy to the warehouse to get one. But, what can I do? Can't go anywhere without it. While we're there, like an idiot, I carry my new camera into the tire place with me and absent mindedly leave it on the counter and go across the street to get some breakfast. Realize I've left the camera, go back to get it----GONE. Stolen. So, now I'm down $288 for a tire and a $150 camera and haven't even left VA, yet. Finally, after three friggin' hours, we're rollin' again. Then we get to Maryland and I-68 is a MESS. They hadn't plowed or salted yet and the snow was already packed onto the roadway. So, we crept the whole way at 25-45 mph. Takes us FOREVER to get to W.VA., where they had the damn sense to prepare for the weather properly......I'm friggin' tired. Good night!"
Man, was I ticked-n-tired! Feel much better this morning though. I would think that the Maryland DOT would know better than to wait until after the storm to treat the roads. Especially in the mountains, where snow is common. That was the worst part. The camera theft was partially my fault for leaving it sit, although there is no excuse for a thief either.
And, I WILL find a way to fit a spare in the trunk of that dang car. That really sucked, trying to work that goop pump in the dark and freezing friggin' cold. Never again.

Only thing I ever go from Warren was my first wife - thanks but no thanks.

Bad weather road trips always have the potential to get awful.
Charles, I suggest you kiss (or otherwise make friends) with a tire dealer, in case you need another of those some day.

Ohio wasn't bad. The flat tire and thievery took place in Virginia. And the DOT stupidity was Maryland. From W. Va. on it was pretty smooth sailing.

Well, the trouble actually happened in Virginia if I recall. And then snow on roads in Maryland.... I think the PR slam Ohio is getting here is totally undeserved.
I regard it as an argument for winter holidays at home.
