I prefer to work for other people because it has served me well for most of my life. There are lots of things my employer does for me that I would otherwise have to take care of myself. They deal with the insurance, government, customers, vendors, etc., in return I give them a solid days work for a solid days pay plus a very good benefit package. And I appreciate what they do for me.

Some folks choose to have control over all of those things themselves so they go out and run their own business. And that's fine. That is their choice. In our society, we have this choice. I make mine, you make yours---There is nothing wrong with that, to my mind.

Choosing to work for others does not mean you are stupid and lazy. Likewise, being a business owner does not automatically make you a supergenius and a pillar of society. If you take the time to check, I bet you will find that the vast majority of people work for someone else. Does this mean we're all deadweight? Spare me.

Apparently the real world is more complex than the fantasy world that exists between your ears. Yes. You're confused. I see that.

Regards,
Dave

Done both and it is Bell that gives me a pension and some health coverage, more than I could say for my consulting business.

My sister-in-law could not keep a job. She had a problem getting there when they wanted her to start. She also liked to talk and she didn't want to be supervised.

She loves Karaoke, and spent a lot of time in Karaoke bars. After getting fired the last time, she started up a restaurant with at Karaoke theme, and a bakery. She has already had to move into a larger building. In their new location they were already getting swamped before they even got their sign up or any advertising out. She has someone else open up for her, but she is there until it closes and beyond. Turns out she was a lot better at running a business than being an employee.

We all have different skills. I'm a pretty good lawyer, but I suck as a business man. (You really have to look out for number one in business, and that's not why most of us got into labor law) I'm no good at grippin' and grinnin' - just don't have the personality to go out and hustle up business. I don't particularly care for betting on the come either, and contingency cases are how you can make big money - or lose your shirt. I'm working on going in-house with a local union - a much more structured environment, good health care and the building trades unions know how to fund a pension.

If everyone wanted to be their own boss, how would the bosses find anyone to work for them?

Regards,

D-Ray

I like your sister, already. (Nothing untoward implied.)

Is the bar, local?

I'll go have a beer and support her cause!
