The quiet one just can't cut a break.

"....the pine tree planted in 2004 near Griffith Observatory in memory of George Harrison will be replanted shortly because the original tree died as the result of an insect infestation..

Yes, the George Harrison Tree was killed by beetles.

Those Western Bark Beetles are doing a number out west. We've lost half a dozen big firs in our complex in recent years. They girdle the tree under the bark. The drought isn't helping either.

Sorry to hear it.

We've had some issues out this way. Emerald ash borers, elm disease, chestnut blight.

The chestnut is very sad. They were the 'Queen of the Eastern forest', towering over the others.

Caloptilia Cuculipenella

South West Germany is not the natural habitat of the Miniermotte. It settled into our region in the last 20 years due to climate change and it destroyed many many chestnut trees since then.

I planted a tiny chestnut tree in our garden in 1980 and it became such an impressive huge tree and I loved it. Four years ago it died due to the permanent Miniermotten attacks.
