Big players have never been straight. At the beginning of this administration there was a policy document which state that China was the real deal not Russia. This was vigorously resisted.
What the leak is showing is that this Russian thing is much different than officialdom.is sayiny. The argument can be made it is time to off ramp and deal fully with the China problem.
This youngster was allowed to get these classifieds.
He is on line and he fits a certain profile.

How many youngsters were allowed to get at classified info, do you suppose? You couldn't just do one and expect him to steal a bunch of classified, most guys wouldn't do it. And you have 'them' wanting a public release, but the kid is not said to have done that, they had to get 'lucky' with another kid stepping up to do that part. It all seems awfully chancy for a black op. And there is severe harm to US intelligence here, revealing lots of what we know and what we think about it. Is all that worth it to 'support an off ramp?' There was no way forward that didn't do all that? Actually, the whole idea seems completely incredible to me. If it was a movie, I say 'stupid plot' and bail on watching it.

US intelligence is not solidly unified. In any intelligence, military and government agency there are factions.

Try and read General Milley and see how many times he is off the rails. Get a hold of early Lloyd Austin positions re the strategic predominance of China.
