Why do we celebrate Columbus' B-day

He may have been a great explorer but he was not the first to discover North America.

Some of his other professions, with the help of his brother and other cronies, were slave trader, Pimp of female adults and children, plunderer of natural resources, oversaw mass genocide of the native population of Hispaniola. Just your general all around good guy. I think I needed this day off to celebrate his life.

Leif Ericson beat him by 500 years and Columbus never even set foot on the North American mainland. I suppose the Italian-Americans had a better lobbying campaign than the Norse.

It's really only celebrated by government workers anyway.
What does that tell you?

We have too many Holidays. We need to get it down to about 4 a year. A Holiday is just another day I stay away from shopping and the beaches.

I disagree. I believe every holiday, including foreign holidays and religious holidays pertaining to every single religion on earth should be mandatory paid time off.

Think I could get the Republicans to sign onto that one?
