One can quibble, but I think the basic claim boils down to 'people are social animals.' Which is just true.

Is the intent: a village can raise a child better than the parents or parents need the village to help raise the child?
Anyway one should be wary of the village; it can be very intrusive.

It takes parents to raise a child. The village is just to help with social development and to watch over him when he is not under parental supervision. Without parents, they wind up being children raised by society, which is part of the problem with many of todays youth.

+1 and it takes both with the family taking the lead. Without a family a child would be lost in a society.

If one wants a socialized child, yes. If one wants his child to be unprepared to make it in society, no.

Doesn't have to be an either / or....
Both the village and the parents play a role in the development of an individual.

No, but in some cases it takes grandparents. All it takes is a kid to forget everything good that they once were after hooking up with a bad crowd after turning 18 and saying ''you can't stop me, I'm 18 now and will party all I want to.''
