TASS says that Vladimir Putin is following “the situation unfolding around Yevgeny Prigozhin,” and that the FSB has started a “criminal case on the fact of calling for an armed rebellion.”

No telling what is really happening. On face value, Prigozhin is making a bid to become warlord, with Putin perhaps remaining as figurehead. But there might be lots of layers to this onion.

Prigozhin is saying the defense chiefs lied about the reasons for the war. Should he survive and gain a position of power, he might be someone willing to end it.

If a real coup develops out of this, outcome will largely depend on how many army troops oppose Prigozhin, and whether any units support him. I noted his claim in one of the statements that "The majority of the troops support us strongly." He hopes!

Prigozhin claims he isn't out to topple Putin. Russia's military leaders say he is. We don't know the actual truth yet but it would seem logical for the military leaders to claim that he is to cover their own butts. Of course Putin will increase his protection even if Prigozhin doesn't want his head someone else might seize the opportunity.

Speaking from the mercenary force’s new headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, the former anchorwoman claimed that she won the leadership of Wagner by a landslide.

She warned Russian state media against questioning her claim to the Wagner helm. “I will be your worst frickin’ nightmare,” she said.

Wagner troops expressed surprise at Lake’s sudden elevation and reservations about whether she would be an improvement over their former leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin. “She seems really mean,” one said.
