I was showing -11 on the Blazers display whenever I was running my wife back and forth to work. She did appreciate being able to step into a warm vehicle and let me deal with driving in near whiteout conditions in the dark. At least there wasn't much traffic.
And I don't mind getting up at 4:00 AM, other than that extra hour has a negative effect on my daily regimen.
It's been a few years back, but we had several days in the -20 range. So it could have been worse.
And speaking of being worse. The Columbia Tribune has been running articles from 150 yrs ago, dealing mainly with the Civil War in this area. According to them, it was -20 back then, with so much snow that the trains were buried on the tracks with only their smokestacks visible. And the celebrated John Wilkes Booth was stranded penniless in I believe Joplin, so he conducted a "reading" at a local opera house to raise some capital. It was reported that due to the loutish behavior of some of the patrons, his performance was ruined.
