I'm more important than a slug. I regard this as self-evident and inarguable. You may not agree of course, and i can't prove it to you. But I consider you much more important than a slug, too. Can't chat with a slug.

Happiness is other people. (Sartre was only half-right).
I've never read it, although it sounds interesting.

And as far as I'm concerned, I'm no better than a slug...although I live in a nicer house and have a better line of bullshit.

If anything, the slug is better off than I, as he has no need or desire for either.

And personally, I think Sartre was more than half right. He just offered a dialectical theory which appeals more to introverts such as myself.

Revealing post.

And what, exactly, do you propose we do about any of this?

Tell me, how do you establish the threshold on who gets to survive and who doesn't and where do you see yourself and your family on that scale?

Seeing the value you place on the rest of humanity, I'm thinking you should be the first to go. Your poisonous ideology is a threat to the rest of us. Lucky for you I neither possess nor desire to possess such power.

I don't propose we do anything about it.

Thresholds for who lives and who dies? Not my call, and not the governments call either. Myself and my family? At the mercy of God, just like the rest of us.

Sorry Dave, but I can't reciprocate your feelings of ill will, as I am one of those saddled with compassion. I believe in being my brother's keeper (even if he's worthless from my viewpoint, my God says otherwise), and in going forth and multiplying, and in using up the planet.

Was not trying to convey "feelings of ill will", simply trying to drive home a point.

Good answer, BTW.

You indeed have more desires, and more suffering, than a slug. But you also have, from time to time I trust, satisfactions and joys that a slug will never experience.

We are programmed to accentuate the negative--there may be survival value in that. But one can easily take it too far. You may be more conversant in Sartre's work than I am--does he ever address the converse of "hell is other people;" my proposition that 'happiness is other people' also?

BTW, I'd class myself as an introvert also, but I've noticed, for one thing, that I start getting weird thoughts if I'm alone too much....
