If only.
I don't know that is even possible, especially on an industrial scale.

Both safe nukes and clean coal are chimeras. And both produce radioactive waste.

As to nuclear energy, I do not see this on the horizon in the near future due to politics. Three Mile Island, Yucca Mountain, etc. are still in recent memory.
I actually wanted to specialize in nuclear engineering and coal gasification but even back then (70's), these technologies had lost their luster.

Storing renewable electric reserve is a major challenge to the concept.
I don't know where we presently stand on competitive renewable beyond hydro.

Home storage technology is being developed rapidly by Tesla, probably to develop an emerging market for their new battery behemoth. Almost half the homes in my immediate neighborhood sport solar panels and this could be a viable option for new construction.
Every electric/electronic traffic sign I see are all solar powered here, not the traffic lights.

Denmark has had a negative carbon impact for a few years now with no talk of bankruptcy. Too bad we are too corrupt to use them for a model. Applies Canada's health care too.

Home /site reserve storage would certainly be one eventual reservoir for the overage. I suppose local substations of storage could work where site storage isn't practical.
At the present, lithium storage cells are the standard. What is the ecological cost of producing and recycling them compared to their benefits?
