Look at Connecticut, a state that had a pretty strong set of gun control laws in 2012, yet the Sandy Hook shooting still happened.
EDIT - they passed even stricter legislation after Sandy Hook, yet CT still ranks pretty high in gun deaths per capita.

tomorrow? I'm talking about taking steps to prevent something from happening tomorrow. Meaning preventative steps that can be put in place as soon as February 21, 2018. That disqualifies the discussion of gun control legislation because such legislation could not be passed in time to be effective tomorrow.
