"The Supreme Court on Monday turned down a Kentucky county clerk’s request to be excused from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, the court’s first involvement in a series of legal battles that have erupted since gay couples won the right to marry." WaPo

I was surprised to read she was a Democrat. I guess Bible-thumpery fouls one's judgment regardless of party.

She should have been fired immediately for her inability to do her job. But I guess when one works for the government, all sorts of BS is tolerated.

Our Jesus weasel governor is getting a divorce after 50 yrs of marriage. I married my partner of 26 years on March 8, The 50th anniversary of Selma bloody Sunday. Apparently gay marriage does ruin straight marriage.

Hate to disappoint anyone but ours is even more solid knowing that others are allowed to share their love.

BTW - this applies to all civil servants involved in any activity, along with any government licensed providers of services...including religious fanatic pharmacists who are refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control pills to women suffering from endometriosis.

It seems the legislature of KY has seen fit to make county clerks virtually fireproof, except by the legislature. This doubtless was to aid in other rebellion earlier. The sanction of contempt of court is available, of course. Kentucky charges of misconduct in office are also possible. Basically, the 'protest' will have to be escalated to new and dangerous levels to continue.

Thanks for the info DQ. Now here she is defying the Supreme Court (non decision) and it's about time something is done. What message are we sending the youngsters and on the tax payer payroll yet. Hope a lawsuit against her and the county is brought soon. She is now stepping beyond her duties as a lowly clerk.

Clerk defies U.S. high court, denies gay marriage licenses

This is obvious grandstanding, she should just move to a job that won't compromise her religiosity.
