We're not talking here about whipping up hatred of the President. I could quibble that the attacks at Bush were largley based in fact as opposed to organized efforts to spread myths like he wasn't an American Citizen or he was a Muslim. But that would be avoiding the point.
The point being- people jab at the people in power. It's unfortunate, but it happens. That isn't what we're talking about here. We're talking about promoting hatred and fear of millions of American Citizens. There are some on the right who are tired of being told it's not okay to hate people who aren't like them. They think it *is* perfectly okay. Muslims are an easy target, so they get hit first and hardest. Hispanics are pretty easy because you can lump them all in with the "illegals" who did, after all, break the law coming here. The fact that we roughly equate that crime to murder or rape makes little difference, it's a good justification for being suspisious of people who don't look like us. The gays are another good target so we try to legislate discrimination against them.
No Pete, those are just hateful and honestly, evil things to do. So yeah, some of us try to draw the line and say "that's not freedom".
