2 Dead, 107 Missing After Ferry Sinks off South Korea's Coast

How come with all the technology we have today we have accidents like this far to often.


At least two people have died and 107 others remain missing after a ferry carrying 477 passengers, many of them students, sank off South Korea’s southern coast Wednesday.

Navy vessels, helicopters and fishing boats are in the process of rescuing passengers who jumped off the boat with life vests. As of three hours after the accident, 368 passengers are safe and accounted for, with two bodies found dead, South Korean Coast Guard officials said.

I heard around 5:15 this morning that the 368 figure was wrong. Many of those included in that number had been counted twice. That means we will have to wait a while to get any real idea of how many have been lost.

Yes it seems the rescued number was way off. Now their saying 300 missing out of the 459. 164 have been rescued and 4 confirmed dead.

It is such a tragedy - indeed 300 are missing. I hope at least some of them can be rescued. Perhaps some are still surviving just now in this ferry in an air bubble.
