A Nebraska man was sentenced to 18 months in prison Thursday for online threats he made to the Colorado secretary of state, while in a separate action an Iowa man was arrested for threatening an official on the Maricopa County, Ariz., Board of Supervisors.

The two cases were brought by the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, which was set up last year “to ensure that all election workers are able to do their jobs free of harassment and intimidation.”

They reflect what watchdogs and public officials have described as the increasingly hostile atmosphere that emerged following the 2020 election and in advance of next month’s midterm elections.

I am simply astounded by the collective IQ of the GOP/GQP candidates for office. No wonder they appeal to the cult who are ill educated and more importantly, ill informed. For instance:

QAnon, conspiracy theory originating in forum posts on the website 4chan in October 2017. Conspiracy adherents believed that U.S. Pres. Donald Trump was waging a secret war against a cabal of satanic cannibalistic pedophiles within Hollywood, the Democratic Party, and the so-called “deep state” within the United States government.

In this day and age, how is this even possible? A group of satanic cannibalistic pedophiles will go unnoticed by law enforcement? No consequences to a cannibalistic group of gruesome murderers? Some people "believe" what they want to believe. That may be fine when it's belief in a benign supreme being, but that's usually not the case.

Right wingnuts have a world view akin to religious fanatics throughout history that considered the slaughter of anyone not on their side to be justified.
