Obama's EPA not just killing coal...

...they also want to kill of anything connected to coal. Another victim to Obama's EPA is a thriving part of the transportation and tourism industry in Michigan. This may be the last year for the Badger...

Didn't realize Obama came up with the EPA. I thought it was a Republican creation, put into place by Nixon.

God, what I would give to have Nixon running for the presidency rather than Romney.

Seems to me if it couldn't be retrofitted with gas powered boilers or even diesel engines there is not enough tourist industry there. And if you had a politician worth their money they would get federal funds to help with a lot of the cost. Shoot, we already have a bridge to nowhere so a boat to somewhere should be much easier to accomplish.

So...... they can't get another ship? Or convert her engines to something other than a coal fired boiler?

Have you ever seen the BC ferries in the Pacific Northwest? Or the ferries that do commuter service in San Francisco Bay? There are alternatives, you know, and a 60 year old ferry, regardless of power source, is a pretty good candidate for the ship breakers.

As for the poor tourists:

"But summer's groups of excited children and nostalgic adults are gone, and only a fraction of the usual crowds make each trip. VIP passengers these days are the massive wind turbine parts being shipped from Wisconsin.

"Officials with the Michigan Carferry Service agreed to extend the ship's run this year by roughly three weeks to accommodate those shipments, meaning the end of its last season could be Friday."

Sort of poetic that the Badger is being used to transport parts for a clean energy project.

You'll try anything, won't you? But, as usual, your own link fails to support your agenda.

Studying whether or not it's a smart idea to dump 500 tons of coal ash into Lake Michigan every year sounds like a pretty smart idea to me.

Whell may not know, but coal ash is full of heavy metals rendering fish in such water inedible. I guess that's a small price to pay to ensure a few tourists get to experience nostalgia.

From the article:
State Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, issued a statement last week urging Congress not to allow the company to avoid regulation via the Coast Guard Authorization Act.

"The S.S. Badger wants to have its coal ash cake and eat it too," Jones said in a statement. "That's unacceptable."
But, of course, it's Obama's fault.
