OK smart ass so we are playing word games with 'immigrants' vs 'illegal immigrants'. Still as a Canadian I was not welcomed with open arms by everyone, not that I gave a damn, if they resented me taking away a job that was just to effing bad. Obviously no one else who could do it wanted it hence the H1B.

If it gives you a warm & fuzzy to believe that the GOP hasn't inculcated and/or taken advantage of racist, homophobic and nativist feelings in its base, go on believing it. They captured that base with Nixon's Southern Stategy and they intend to keep it.

What I hear mostly is that they are taking 'our' jobs and living on welfare.

Then, there is the less obvious, but just as bad.. ... The snide remarks, the implications that come with the nod of the head and the rolling of the eyes.

The ironic thing is.... I live in an agricultural area that depends heavily on legal immigrant labor and the very people who complain are reaping the most from this labor.

The irony is that while working I lectured abroad and brought money back with me. Now retired my Canadian pension brings in more money that I get on SS so my answer to those types is get stuffed.
