Dixie Comes To Petaluma

‘I’ve never seen anything like that': Confederate flags at California Veterans Day parade'

"As he sat next to an Army veteran in an open-air jeep during the Veterans Day parade in a northern California town, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman had his attention caught by a sight.
Three young men were standing on the sidewalk, each carrying a variation of the Confederate flag.
As the parade began and the jeep carrying Huffman (D-Calif.) and the Army veteran inched forward, Huffman got the attention of the young men and waved a miniature American flag at them. “This is our flag,” he told them.
Two of the men, the congressman said, were wearing Donald Trump T-shirts." WaPo

Very subtle expression at that.

Sure, but that's hardly the point.

What is being expressed is the point. People have always been free to wave hate symbols in Petaluma, but their actually wanting to do it is a new development.

We know that.

The question is, "What are they expressing and should we be concerned?"

This latest thing with Steve Bannon makes me think we just might have been right about the "Trump Train" all along. Time will tell.

The notion that it is perfectly fine is what is disturbing. Sure, we are all free to express our views and that includes these guys. People upset by the display also have the same right. Government reaction isn't what I'm concerned with. It's the insistence that anyone who speaks out against this is somehow violating the bigots rights, or that they are just "whiners" or "Libtards" or whatever.

"People are so easily offended these days."

You are witnessing blatant White racism being legitimized in the mainstream.

The thing is Trump is showing how inept he is already. A normal President appoints ONE trusted adviser to be his gate-keeper. Literally the one person you completely trust.
He appoints Priebus and then immediately neuters him by making him share power with Bannon. Translation: He really wants Bannon as chifef of staff but can't pick him because he is an alt-right white supremacist. I don't know myself but it never appeared to me that Priebus was really close to Trump.

The issue is not that Trump is not ready but where his heart is.

No worries, as the kids say these days. Bannon is right in the wheelhouse in these conversations about nitwits who show up at a Veteran's Day parade waving Confederate symbols.
