If Dave worked in a unionized plant, he would likely be earning more than he does now, particularly because he is a skilled worker. I can't speak for him, but I would imagine that he would appreciate working under a union contract.

D-Ray

I don't belong to a union, Bill. I also live in a "Right to Work" state. And, I can tell you this; The few union jobs left in the work I do, pay nearly $10 an hour more. Even if they're paying a hundred bucks a week in dues, they are still coming out way ahead of me.
But, great paying jobs like that just have to go, because guys like you feel that nobody (outside of management) deserves that kind of pay.......Am I Right?
Dave

He would likely be earning more, just as he likely may be earning less. Unions can not do anything more than negotiate with management for the pay and benefits of the employees. He may actually be making less, considering the union fees for representing him.
By the way Mr. D-Ray, do you belong to a union ???

I once worked a union job (In a different field.) that actually paid less but the saw the benefit in membership immediately, when the employer tried to block me from using my health insurance.....for open heart surgery. To keep a long story short, one visit to the union hall rectified that situation.
I would have had a little difficulty paying $65,000 worth of medical bills on $9 an hour. (1989). Especially when, during the process, I was told by management that "If you have heart problems, you can't work here anymore.". I worked there for 3 years after that incident......with a bullseye on my back.
So, Bill, don't hand me any of your usual "kindly employer" BS. I don't buy it. If such a thing does exist, I have as yet to find it.
Dave
