More irony.
The US is a constitutional republic. It became closer to democracy/mobocracy with the 17th amendment, but it is still a constitutional republic.
In a democracy, our representatives would not vote on bills and our president would not sign them. Rather, the people would vote directly on these laws, as we do at the state level regarding things like referendums. In a democracy, like our states, we vote for governors. In a constitutional republic, like our federal government, the electoral college votes on presidents. That's how we keep large states like California from running roughshod over the smaller states.
States are democracies. The Federal government is a constitutional republic. Have you not yet passed through High School Civics?
BTW, that is why many of us make no excuses that we are "anti-democracy" regarding the federal government.
