Stock they use a 12AY7 into an EF86, a couple 6SN7s and KT88s for outputs. To me, that's too much gain up front, so I eliminate the crappy 12AY7 and run the signal straight into the low noise pentode EF86 (6267 US number). I think the two I'm getting are all Acro iron from stem to stern, so they should be good amps if built right. They are rated at 70 watts, which is a bit of a stretch for a pair of 88s. I have a pair of mono Stromberg Carlsons (AP50s) that are rated at 50 watts running 4 6L6s per amp. I'll probably do those after the Allens. Here's a thread about them from DIY.
