Don't forget that part of the problem of trying to reduce the budget is that interest must be paid on the past deficits. That is already one of the largest ticket items in the budget. At $240 that's more than the budget for any federal department except the Department of Defense.

The DoD is the big fish. Did you see Rand Paul on Jon Stewarts show? He mentioned making cuts---up to 30%, I think, in defense. That alone would be close to $300b. But, I'll believe that when I see it.

I think Rand Paul scares the GOP establishment far more than he scare the Dems. If he were to succeed in cutting Defense by a substantial amount, the Military/Industrial complex would stop funneling money into GOP coffers.
