The DoD is the big fish. Did you see Rand Paul on Jon Stewarts show? He mentioned making cuts---up to 30%, I think, in defense. That alone would be close to $300b. But, I'll believe that when I see it.

Let me see if I can find it................

....posted in the Economy Forum. Okay, so he didn't say 30%. But, he did mention cuts in defense as well as entitlements. At any rate, I thought it was an interesting interview.

I think Rand Paul scares the GOP establishment far more than he scare the Dems. If he were to succeed in cutting Defense by a substantial amount, the Military/Industrial complex would stop funneling money into GOP coffers.

So, we can balance the budget by cutting military spending?

Not exactly. But we can't balance it without cutting military spending.

Agreed. The question is, where on the priority list? Got to be careful not to damage bone - the Chinese are waxing. We've already given up space.

We spend 6 times as much as they do. We could cut it 33% and still be spending 4X as much.

That is why we have superiority. I'm not saying don't cut, but it isn't a panacea.

So blue, who said that?
