Afghan Drawdown
http://www.npr.org/2011/06/21/137315...wn?sc=fb&cc=fp
It would appear an official announcement from the C-in-C is coming on Wednesday.
"He's just doing it to appease his base!" There, I said it for you.
I'd say it's about time. Although the plan looks to be full of conditions...Conditions I don't believe will ever be met, no matter how long we hang on.
Dave

He is, he's not appeasing his base (hard to do in light of other events ), it's all according to the plan.
Very good news!

Evidently, There were not many viewers. I guess at some point people just tire of the overexposed Obama.

Saw the Newhour interview with Sec. Gates last night, he seemed to approve even if it was more than he recommended.

I like the interplay with the military. I think they're a) covering their asses, and b) hitting Obama as much as they dare.
Gates appears to be very worried about Gates I fear.
The most interesting is the interviews with Afghanis. I'm assuming they are mostly with more urban types than very rural, but most don't want us to just walk out.

We're not just walking out. At some point they have to stand on their own. That should have been made clear from the start.
We need to worry less about the schools in Afghanistan, and more about the schools in America. We have our own internal problems---That are growing worse every year.

Oh I'm not saying we are walking out. Just pointing out that there are some folks over there smart enough to realise what we're doing.
It makes a lie of the mullahs that teach we are all bad. I love it.
Not down with Pax America Dave?

Afghanistan is a "nation" of tribes, the idea that they will ever accept a central government is laughable.

Only in the land of Oz might this be "fulfilling a promise to the base".
At the end of his term, according to the plan and the military commentary, we are likely to still have MORE troops there then when he took office.
He COULD have left out the crap about "nation-building here at home". OF COURSE -- that's a real reason. But featuring that statement in his address just looked weak to the rest of the world. And when Colbert got a hold of that last night -- I LMAO.
