I'm curious - in light of the failure of using cruise missiles to take care of the problem before 9-11, what on earth do we do?

Occupy the homes of all would be robbers so you can watch their activities and control what they do? A little impractical by my estimation.

It's a dangerous world, I know. But we can't try to control everyone.

There was the famous episode where clinton called off a strike of an Al Queda compound in Afghan because of Saudi visitors. It was BELIEVED that high level leadership was present. He was also OFFERED bin Laden by the Sudanese at one point. We won't make those mistakes again (hopefully).

The reality is that future attacks COULD be directed from any of a DOZEN countries including Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, etc.. You CANNOT deny all havens for these pests.

IF -- we're attacked, we should gather the evidence for the source of those attacks and STERILIZE the ground. But remember, Attah and many of the hijackers actually planned and trained for the 9.11 attacks from Hamburg and Florida and California..

Afghanny, the argument is we wait till we're attacked? Shouldn't we try to be proactive here?

We'll have a base in Afghanistan till the cows come home. I sure won't slam Obama for that. BS campaign BS, sure, and he deserves it in spades. But not national security.

Heroin is what puts food and clothes on Afgani's from the farmer's to the top of the gov't. We need to either buy it from them, teach them a better way to farm a living, or get out and leave them alone. Guns and missiles are not a long term solution.
