Here's the nation's future:

Gov. Jerry Brown (D) has signed a law that gives the California Energy Commission (CEC) the authority to fine manufacturers that don't meet California's energy efficiency standards, which in some cases are the strictest in the country.

The new law is part of the state's ongoing effort to save energy and cut greenhouse gas emissions. It will ensure that product makers retool energy-draining items, environmental groups said.

I think we should just double the cost on all products that use energy.
