Pat downs and scanners
Is it really as big a deal as the media is making about them.

yes, in as much as it freaks out people irrationally
no, in as much as it's a nothing procedure that once people become familiar with won't think twice about

I know I do not have an issue with them doing their job. Some of these people are just lawsuit happy, jerk wads.

As long as we accept that 13 year old kids can be groped, all in the name of security. Personally even before TSA went postal I would not fly, I still will not fly. People on airplanes are rushed and harried and it shows in their basically uncivil behaviour. Take the train, people are relaxed, polite and friendly.
I believe Ben Franklin had summat to say on the subject of relinquishing freedom for security.

It's funny that the government insists that blasting people with radiation and shaking them down like a con at the joint is necessary for security, but refuse to use one of the most effective techniques, profiling.
And I agree with Rob, I would rather walk uphill in the rain than fly. I've always found it to be no more than an exercise in self abuse.

I think the whole pat down/body scan thing is nothing but a security facade put forth by the TSA. It's kind of like a security condom - it makes you feel secure while you're being screwed.
I have no particular issue with the body scan or pat down other than it is an expensive and ineffective overreaction. What if the underwear bomber had the bomb up his keister instead of in his BVD's? Would we be willing to accept body cavity searches?
Consider for a moment. We had a shoe bomber, so we all had to take off our shoes. So the would-be terrorists change the location of the bomb by less than 3' to the crotch and we were unable to detect it. Great. Now we search people's crotches. They'll just devise another method. They're patient and methodical. We're nervous and overreactive.

First you sensationalize every complaint, every grievance, every tale of woe and cruelty.
Then you remind people that the law says the airport has the right to hire a private security firm if they choose to do so.
As you are busy doing all of this you either have friends/family buy stock in a security firm, or pull strings to get a friends/family members company the contracts.
I'll bet if one were to investigate the behind-the-scenes goings on....................
What was that politicians name?

Somebody please 'splain to me why, if the purpose of the scans and/or pat down is to protect the airplane and other passengers and crew, what the problem is if a passenger decides to opt out and leave the airport? Why would he/she be fined then?

Anybody care to take a guess as to how much stock George Soros has in the scanner company? Seriously.
