It was my understanding that Europeans introduced Carp into American rivers early on, for a plentiful commoner food fish. At that time they were unaware of the Catfish that were already teaming in our waters. OOPS. The buzz now is blue green algae. I read a story where it killed two dogs that accidentally ingested it while swimming. It's not even good to touch it they say. Google it, to see if it's in your area if you have water dogs.

Strap him to the bow of an swamp runnin' airboat, (you know the one's with an airplane propeller) and get it up to about 50 mph! All those carp will be pelting that wingnut crybaby. Hell, stick that bronze god Boehner up there with him. That'll knock some of that suntan in a bottle off his hide!!

Fortunately my dog, an elderly Dalmatian, hates water. She loves to go to the beach, but refuses to even let her paws get wet.

It's really scary stuff, a lake not more than a couple hours from the lake I live on has it bad. All it takes is a couple boats pulling out of there, and putting in here. The real reason I live on water is for my dogs, they swim everyday (Labs). I'm keeping a sharp eye out, and make them stay close to my dock.

Yeah, you have to work at keeping a Lab out of the water. Keep a close eye on them, Jay. That IS very nasty stuff.

You know it, they break ice in the winter to go swimming. I've heard that Labs were originally bread for fishing dogs in icy water. Whatever fishes that got out of the nets and were laying on the water, were fetched by the Labs. I can believe it, they absolutely live for water and have incredibly soft mouths. My first one "Rex" would follow my boat when I'd go fishing even if it was clear to the other end of the lake. He would just keep swimming. When he got older, and stiff in the hips, I let him ride in the boat with me.

I don't care about the fish. I'm still reeling from TD's confession that he lives on a government lake!

Just wait for when those thirsty farmers who covet all that water during this drought come demanding their share of it .... heh, heh.

Land owners around the lake have first water rights. For fish, yes, good bass fishing with 3 and 4 pounders pretty common. The two biggest I know of being caught were both just over 7. Channel cat is excellent as is Crappie. Walleye, and Saugeye are good if you know how to fish for them. I only get them by accident with crappie jigs. A couple schools of White bass, but no small mouths (dang it). The bluegill are generally large enough to filet during the hot months, and at least once a year I do up enough for a good meal. IMHO, the bluegill is very underrated for table fish. We have length limits and such that seem to keep the fish in good order.
