Adversarial policing is so destructive to community relations I can't comprehend why it's tolerated.

I realize that suburban situations such as ours, twenty one homesites on a cul-de-sac and the next group of houses some 5 miles away make the beat cop on foot impractical. But when they put the police in cars it was a mistake, because they no longer know the people they are supposed to be protecting.

Because "Community Policing" was an abject failure.

Perhaps better said that it isn't workable everywhere?
I try to be a realist, I know that there are areas where trust on either or both sides is hard or impossible to establish for any number of valid reasons. Even so, an adversarial relationship where it's not appropriate or warranted leads to an abuse of authority that destroys trust where it has functioned or can function.

Interesting story, that second one. It boils down to "The defense plans to call an expert who says everything to officer did was just fine."

As a news story, that's really nice PR for the defense....

Like I said, I haven't forgotten about this one.

The trial has finally started.

I'm waiting to see how this plays out.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A second colleague of an Alabama police officer accused of using excessive force against an Indian grandfather said Thursday that he thought the takedown used to subdue the man was improper, and a dispatcher said she helped "stack" the officer's probable cause information by searching for recent incidents he could mention in his paperwork.

Prosecutors called their final witnesses in the second day of testimony in the federal trial of Madison Police Officer Eric Parker, who is accused of depriving Sureshbhai Patel, 58, of his civil rights during a stop on Feb. 6 in suburban Huntsville.

Three correctional officers with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department were arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with what their boss described as a “vile and cowardly act” — the beating death of a mentally ill inmate at the county jail in San Jose.

Jereh Lubrin, 28, and Matthew Farris and Rafael Rodriguez, both 27, were booked early Thursday into the same jail where they allegedly attacked 31-year-old inmate Michael Tyree on Aug. 26 before his body was found the next day, naked and covered in feces and vomit. All are being held on suspicion of murder, conspiracy and assault under color of authority.

They should have just shot him like the BART cops would have with the mentally ill.
