Yeah, Oregon Gov. Tom McCall was famous for his "Come visit, don't stay" slogan back in the early 70's. My step-dad at the time was pretty active in politics, so I got to meet McCall at his office a few times when I was a kid. I guess that could be where I got some of my disdain for politics. My step-dad (Ron Huntley) was a compulsive liar. Years after he and my mom divorced, he ran for Oregon state representative on the Dem ballot, and got convicted of three counts of providing false statements under the election laws by stating he had earned degrees in Political science and law enforcement from Olympia and Portland State Universities. Both were untrue.

Wasn't there some teabagger congressional candidate in the Midwest who recently lied about his military service? And then there was "Tailgunner Joe" McCarthy.

Gotta love those pols!

Also a famous case of stolen valor in 1950's Utah, iirc, Douglas Stringfellow.
