The above drama is perfect example: it truly is correct procedure to perform as the officer did given witness testimony implying even the barest shred of potential violence, weaponry, public or officer danger.

The only way to actually BE able to do it is complete disassociation, at least in my case. That made me someone I (and others) didn't particularly care for, rightfully so.
But it's still the job.
Public officials, as codified by law, should perform their duties as mandated or walk away. (Didn't we just have this argument in TN?)
I don't do it anymore but I left before I was trapped. I know dozens of HS diploma guys, typically veterans, just begging for their retirement date to come up but are afraid to leave because a job making the funds currently being pulled down isn't available to them in any other way.
