Any way you could strap a can of gas on the hood and feed the carb via gravity?
A crude fix, but it might allow you to knock down the ol' weedpatch before it gets out of hand.

Well she is running fine now, t'was the damned suction tube in the gas tank, was all split and cracked. Part that still puzzles me is that when I blew into the hose ahead of the filter I would hear bubbles in the tank and the resulting pressure was enough to make gas come out of the hose. Maybe after 12 years I will replace all the fuel lines.

I used to work with a guy who believed you could get better gas mileage if the gasoline was better vaporized. So he ran a coil of copper tubing from the cooling system to a bowl he had mounted above the carb. The idea was that as soon as the engine reached operating temperature he would switch the fuel supply from the carb to the bowl. Oh yeah!

Ethanol is rough on fuel lines. Blew one on my old Dodge a couple of years ago. Went through $50 worth of gas in 1 1/2 miles.
Also left a trail on the pavement that was still visible two weeks later.

I've been looking for that story for YEARS, iirc it was in Car and Driver? Any idea where I can find it, perhaps post it ?

TV show Mythbusters tried it. You can search YOUTUBE for that.
