What are the rules in your schools

The other night the local news had a bit on parents not vaccinating their children and the risk that posed. Medical experts suggest that some childhood diseases could return with the possibilities of fatalities.

I asked Florence about her childhood and she said the only one she ever got was the Salk polio shot,

In 1935 back in Quebec, my first year of school you were given only a week and if you did not show up with proof of vaccination you got sent home.

In this day and age can we really be so damned insane as to not require vaccination?

My sons pediatrician gave us a letter when we first met them saying they vaccinate all kids and if you don't like that basically go somewhere else. The preschool he is in now requires vaccinations but the public schools accept titers which blows my mind.

People who don't vaccinate are free riding--their kids are at low risk as long as most kids are vaccinated. If there are enough 'free-riders,' the disease may come back among them, and they may be sorry.

But if your kids are vaccinated, they aren't at risk in any case, right?

True you don't need to worry about your vaccinated child. Its just ridiculous to even give these diseases a chance of making a comeback.

I think these parents listen to the vaccines cause autism argument. Wasn't it a Kennedy who looked like an idiot when they proved the theory wrong?

It does not always protect, when I had that argument with a truck and broke my thigh I was in a cast from armpit to ankle. I was back in the hospital overnight to have the cast removed and caught a full blown case of measles, the full blown variety not rubella.

Also young babies in the household are at severe risk because vaccination starts later. It seems odd that we send people into other lands to vaccinate children and allow it to be a choice here at home.

All children must be vaccinated here, but there are loopholes, such as a religious exemption.

Flu shots oughta be mandatory for everyone, too.

We have the religious exemption here (NYC) too. However just
recently measles broke out in one religious community which
refuse vaccination.

I guess we practice freedom of religion but not freedom from religion.
