I wouldn't go that far!
I'm more spitballer than anybody in the know. I assumed you meant protectionist in the traditional sense, protecting our own workforce & businesses from unfair practices by our trading partners. I don't have any particulars but in the E.U. I assume their is some sort of machinery in place to address such issues. In the political arena I would think there would be no admittance without some flavor of democracy. That brings up the issue of how it should go down. Voluntary would be the only correct way. It has to be made advantageous economically to join. Force would never be an option to induce membership... but I would say anything like some world confederation is a long, long way off and would be immensely difficult to manage but the alternative of having a world war every few generations is not something I would want. Nor anyone else I'm sure but we do seem to be always doing it.
The baby blue helmet thing was a friendly poke in the ribs for you Libertarians,
meant in jest. The U.N. is a failed experiment like the League of Nations, no real teeth and having a security council with veto power made it a stillborn to my mind. Mind you it still is better than nothing and a step in the right direction, IMO. Like I said spitballin' here cause it really isn't even on the horizon now.
