55,000 new jobs in the American auto industry
As much as the union-bashers and name-callers wanted the federal intervention into the auto industry to fail, they didn't get their way. It wasn't socialism - the government negotiated the changes that needed to be made, and stepped out to let the auto companies make the changes. It looks like the government is getting its money back from the areas where it intervened in a big way - Wall Street and the auto companies. Too bad the lobbyists got in the way of some real healthcare reform - I would be betting on it paying off as well.

D-Ray

And I do love it.
My favorite thing going on back home is the story of V&M Star. An Independent Mayor and Democratic Congressman are claiming credit for a new steel mill being built in the Mahoning Valley. Now, I'll be the first to say that it's rediculous for them to get all of the credit. Government doesn't create industry. However it is well documented that both men traveled to Paris to negotiate various aspects of the deal with company officials, which I am sure included taxes and zoning, etc. And they must have done a good job because it's a done deal, the mill is being built. And the local Republicans absolutely HATE it. They are furious and fighting Mayor Williams and Congressman Ryan every step of the way. The smear campaign is going full speed ahead. It's just amazing, for the first time in nearly fourty years, a new mill is being built, bringing over 650 good paying industrial jobs to the area and the Republicans are throwing a fit........
Because THEY had nothing to do with it.

Below, Mayor Williams and Congressman Ryan.

... because it flies in the face of the GOP story line - the GOP brings jobs, the Dems bring higher taxes.

Cognitive dissonance at work, methinks.

I am critical of the administration in some areas. One of them is in the failure to effectively get the message about the administration's accomplishments heard. I don't think MSNBC is going to be the vehicle the party needs (although Rachel Maddow must have done very well on compare and contrast essay questions in college).
Obama succeeded in a task on which the Clinton Administration failed. Clinton failed at that, but survived Republican attacks just as vicious as the ones aimed at Obama, and ended his second term with sufficient support that he would have won a third term if he had been eligible. While that might have something to do with Clinton also being known as Bubba, we might need to unleash Bubba on the right wing mouthpieces to help identify the administration's accomplishments. After all, his wife is in the administration. I know that that would be contrary to the supposed goal of seeing Hillary "rescue the Democrats from a failed Obama administration," but I think he has seen enough of the viciousness to be sick of it himself. Besides, he should know that it would just be more of the same for Hillary.

I am very happy that the autos are growing. I buy and drive domestic cars.
I was OK with TARP, and OK with the auto bailout. Letting GM go into bankruptcy would've been insane in my POV.
One question though - if things are going well, why isn't the government going to sell their stake in GM?
