I am watching the original BBC 'House of Cards' on Netflix streaming. I must say the British version is much more effective at using direct commentary to the viewer. Kevin Spacey is good but Ian Richardson is better at pulling it off. It is funny that the US revived a 20 year old BBC series. I guess we Americans have no imagination any more. I can't wait for the remake of 'Fawlty Towers' with Adam Sandler playing the part of Basil. Just kidding.

If you like Downton Abbey you really need to see Upstairs Downstairs from the 1970s...that is the template and is just as good if not better than Downton Abbey.
Interesting take. I can't admit to coveting a place in the aristocracy though. I'm a union guy.

Season 4 of Upstairs Downstairs should have arrived in the mail today. We have three episodes of DA left, but I really want to go out to see "42" too. Unfortunately, entertainment time is limited because I need to finish a brief this weekend. What's a guy to do?

Ain't complainin' though. It's better to be busy than broke.

Dowton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs are sort of like the Waltons seen from the other end of the telescope but with many similarities but of course radically show the differences between the USA and Great Britain.

Well if you have been watching Upstairs Downstairs you are indeed hooked already

I recommend Brideshead Revisited, Flambards, and Testament of Youth from the same period in Brit tv...early 80s

Interesting!

I have just reached episode 7 in the American series. Kevin Spacey is really good.

I mentioned I've started to watch All Creatures Great and Small, I'm a good number of episodes into it and it just gets better and better. Thanks for mentioning it Rob!

They did do the bull semen thing too, but it just didn't translate onto screen very well.
