Who do you like . . .

In a party other than the one with which you are aligned.

I was explaining to my wife tonight how Jim Inhofe made me feel ashamed to hail from Oklahoma. My wife then asked a question that made me think:

Are there any Republicans that you like?

I had to think hard of elected officials. At one time I had some respect for John McCain. I kind of like Gov. Christie's style. Then I pointed out that the man Inhofe was lambasting was himself a Republican, so I have some Respect for Chuck Hagel. There are even times when the other Oklahoma Senator (Tom Coburn) makes sense (and other times that he is way out in right field). I often Like Kathleen Parker, and even Michael Gerson.

So how about you guys. Got anything nice to say about the other side.

Regards,

D-Ray

That's a tough one. There used to be quite a few. I grew to like Goldwater over time and, like you, Christie and Hagel, though Hagel's association with ES&S voting machines gives me reason for concern.

These days I don't think I have any respect for any Republicans serving in Congress, not a single one. There are, however, several that I like. John Dean is one, Kevin Philips another and Norm Ornstein probably completes the list.

Now is not a good time to ask. Because I blame the ones I would otherwise like, for letting the Tea Party in.

Well, here's one. But only because I recently read his book and loved it;

Mike Lofgren (R) Ohio.

Dave

Swartzenegger since he's back to making movies. As Governor he was a miserable SOB. I can't think of any others right now. I'm in a wait and see mode during the next six months. Helplessly hoping probably.

Finnbow is really the only Republican that I respect, presently. Does that count? He may be an indy, tho.

Although the social principles of my church would lean Democratic, being as we are in Johnson County, we also have plenty of Republicans who attend. And I have to say that I respect all of them who I have met.

D-Ray

In regard to people outside of government. Yes, there are plenty of Repubs that I have respect for. Orange County actually has some reasonable non Tea Party types.

Although I abhor the choices they made with respect to Iraq, I would also have to say that I respect Colin Powell, and to a lesser degree, Condi Rice. I have some respect for George the Elder too.

That's not to say that I would have ever voted for Bush or that I am likely to vote for Christie.

Regards,

D-Ray

Condi? Fugedabadit! I'll go along with Powell but have grave reservations about his complicity in two very black marks on our history. The most recent, of course, is his shameful speech before the UN regarding the mythical WMDs. The second, perhaps less well-known is his role in covering up the My Lai Massacre.
