He did a live album in a club setting with him in the 90s, I forgot the name. Might not have been in front of an audience.
The other live album, One Night In San Francisco, has Fame and host of other guest stars.
The music is good but Van shares the limelight with too many others in my opinion. John Lee Hooker is on it though so it is not bad.

I had heard of Leon and probably heard "Prince of Peace" and a few other things on the radio, when I saw this on Soundstage in 1971. It was a revelation for me. Particularly this Dylan song. I became a lifelong fan of this man, who I believe is the most under appreciated performer in the history of Rock N' Roll and popular music. And it also generated a somewhat disturbing personal obsession with Claudia Lennear, which I suffered with for the better part of a decade.

The entire "Homewood Sessions" video just came up on YouTube in January. I had been searching for it for years and now it's there. Leon Russell & Friends - The Homewood Sessions. If you haven't seen any of this, or have been after it for decades, as I have...it's a real treat. It was transformative, and still is.
Enjoy.

Leon Russell and I share the same hometown. I would occasionally see him hanging out in a club.
Did you ever watch the documentary about Mad Dogs and Englishmen?
