He did not, however, mention the sacrifices of the Iraqi people.
This inattention to civilian deaths in America’s wars isn’t unique to Iraq. There’s little evidence that the American public gives much thought to the people who live in the nations where our military interventions take place. Think about the memorials on the Mall honoring American sacrifices in Korea and Vietnam. These are powerful, sacred spots, but neither mentions the people of those countries who perished in the conflicts.
The major wars the United States has fought since the surrender of Japan in 1945 — in Korea, Indochina, Iraq and Afghanistan — have produced colossal carnage. For most of them, we do not have an accurate sense of how many people died, but a conservative estimate is at least 6 million civilians and soldiers.

And the uplifters killed way more than that whenever they banned DDT.

On August 23, 1996, Osama bin Laden signed and issued the "Declaration of Jihad Against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Mosques," meaning Saudi Arabia. It was the first of two explicit declarations of war against the United States. The declaration summed up bin Laden's belief, categorical and uncompromising, that "there is nothing more imperative, after faith, than to repel the aggressor who corrupts religion and life, unconditionally, as far as possible." In that line was the seed of bin Laden's stance that even the killing of innocent civilians was justified in defense of the faith.

Bin Laden was a fucking religious wacko who had no qualms about murdering any one, even his own people, in his quest for ideological purity.
And he wasn't, and isn't, the only squirrel in the tree.
This ain't over with yet, whether we've taken our ball and went home or not.

And there are a WHOLE lot of people in the world who would switch Bin Ladens name with Bush's, and leave all the rest the same.

One guy who keeps getting a pass on this stuff is Clinton. During his term, the unnecessary and unconscionable sanctions he kept on Iraq killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and kids, while doing nothing to harm the bastards up top.
