I agree no one cares about us, except as far as they can steal from us.

Heck they both work for the same people. In an aging book, Who Rules America Now, the author showed that the only time there is a fight in Congress is when the ruling class (mostly the rich) can't come to an agreement beforehand.

Yeah, if the corporation starts losing enough money, they make the CEO unpack his golden parachute and jump into a bed of pillows. Then they bring someone else in from this exclusive class who knows whose asses he must kiss to stay in the class.

I have picked up that book, but it hasn't made it to the top of the queue.

It's been a loooong time since I read it (90? 92? 88?), but I remember being impressed at the book (and somewhat saddened/disillusioned).

I've been reading scifi as a break (The Gripping Hand, 3001 {eh}, Caves of Steel)(I do like scifi ), 'bout time I picked up something serious again.

You know, following the news I am reaching the conclusion that if you want something really screwed up give it to private corporations. First it was AIG, then Citi, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Bros. et. al

Then Merck pays a big fine for Vioxx, latest was Astra Zeneca for using a drug for purposes not approved by the FDA.

Now BP is a running disater looking for places to happen, just can't seem to pick up the paper or turn on the news without hearing about another SNAFU.

It would appear that corporate Mahogany Rows are filled with incompetents who would have great difficulty locating their gluteous maximus with both paws.

Why do you hate America? Why do you hate freedom?

Our masters. Ya buy 'em books, ya send 'em to skool, ya give 'em yer trust, and none of the bastards, corporate or government, can run a railroad. Actually, the corporations could not only run a railroad, but build one as well. Once they lobbied for and received Gubbmitt freebies.

Gotta have 'em, but the more they leave me to be, the better I like it.

After all, I AM smart enough to pour piss out of a boot...even without their help.

This thread is a few years old but what the heck.

Yes, there is absolutely a concerted move toward globalism/New World Order. There are now several mainstream books out and the subject is no longer one of conspiracy theorists.

In a nutshell the argument in favor of globalism is that nations that depend on each other will have less incentive to fight.

The leaders are the corporate plutocrats. Big oil, big banking, big entertainment, etc. -- basically organizations that are deemed too big to fail or structurally important.

We'll see how the experiment pans out. We are already seeing stresses with unemployment in light of excessive cheap imports.

Adam Smith outlined problems with free trade in his book The Wealth of Nations (1776). Time will tell if old school wisdom still carries the day.

Works for me. World Wars are kind of a drag.
