Sometimes I agree with Allan Bloom about the evils
of moral relativism. I see no hypocracy here at all.
Agreed. Look what they did in Manila and to our guys on Bataan. Burning 3/4 of Tokyo didn't seem to phase them at all.

I mean you saw how the Japanese fought for a barren rock like Iwo Jima.
I mean just imagine street to street fighiting on the mainland.

Jesus as warrior? Well he did throw the money changers out of the temple. He also told his disciples that if people did not want to listen to them to merely shake the dust from their shoes and move on.

Paul in writing to the people of Corinth wrote "...and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." Hardly warlike IMHO.

In the last thirty one years we have seen intervention in our lives that defies explanation. Was it Divine? As good an explanation as any as far as we are concerned.

Individuals that use religion to attempt to make people follow some crazy idea are anything but religious. What Jesus taught was a plan or method whereby people could attain their own individual potential, and there was no suggestion of stepping on others on the way to that potential.

But then what do I know.

Gotta say, when you start a thread they are usually good'uns, Dave. Now, where did I leave those pom-poms? Just kiddin', man.

BTW, my intent in this thread was not to cast aspersions upon Christianity. It's meant to show how religion, even Christianity, can be manipulated to serve as a catalyst for mass insanity.

And, I think we're watching it happen again, right before our very eyes.

"Religion is the opium of the people" (Karl Marx)

Mahatma Ghandi also used this tool. But his intentions were not evil, that makes the difference.

I'm fine with personal religion. Organized religion can be iffy...
