Impending Government Shutdown by MAGA Clowns ...

... is about nothing.

“We are truly heading for the first-ever shutdown about nothing,” said Michael Strain, director of economic policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, a right-leaning think tank...“The weirdest thing about it is that the Republicans don’t have any demands. What do they want? What is it that they’re going to shut the government down for? We simply don’t know.”

“I frankly don’t understand it — I think it’s sort of nuts. There are times people vote yes one day, and then they come back and vote no the next day, and can’t explain why they switched,” said Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and a McCarthy ally... “I find it hard to understand what they want, too, because they change constantly — that’s a big part of the problem.” Asked if he has a hard time tracking the insurgents’ demands of McCarthy, Gingrich said yes, adding, “So do they.”

“You can’t have seven reasons, and a different one each week, and expect American people to understand what your point was. In prior fights, there was a focus on why you were doing this. But right now, what would someone watching this on TV be taking away? It’s about too many things, which makes this about nothing,” Grover Norquist said.

Matt Gaetz will disagree. He is hell bent on ousting McCarthy and this seems to be his choice of technique. What really bothers me is that the hardliners of the Freedumb Caucus represent less than 2% of US population and they have this outsize power to shut down the government due to intra party squabbling. Yet we believe this is democracy in action.

Anther trivia. Only 86 or so House seats are competitive, so our congressional elections are mostly decided in the primaries in these contested seats, not the general election. Yet another example of democracy in action.

The last is why the 'regular Republicans' are unwilling to side with the Democrats to end this BS.

It was indeed shocking. Normally, disruptive stupidity if the forte of your party (and they exhibited quite a bit of it during this budget impasse).

Your far-Reich heroes have delayed the vote for months, yet this is your only comment. You are an asshole.

'Russia helped elect Donald Trump': GOP strategist calls out Republicans over Ukraine
https://www.rawstory.com/amp/russia-...den-2665773676

Smart Repube. Outside of Whell’s Idiot World, clearly.

Quote:

"Today the party that once was the most consistent antagonist of Soviet Union/Russia is the home of the large and growing pro-Putin element of American politics," Stevens said, adding that Biden "is in the role that represents the best of America: leading a coalition to fight tyranny and genocide."

The strategist added:

"If Ronald Reagan were president today, he would do the same," he said. "If you care about liberty and the defense of freedom, if you believe it is wrong to stand by while thousands of children are kidnapped and a tyrant sends an army of rapists and murderers to prey on the innocent, you have one choice in this election: support" Biden.

Stevens further encouraged everyone to "stand with" the President.

"There is no neutral position on confronting an evil unlike any we have seen since WW2. To do nothing is to help the evil spread. Stand with freedom. Stand with human dignity. Stand with Ukraine."

BFD. After months of refusing to work with Dems, what did McCarthy do?
Caved and said this.

Quote:

"What I am asking, Republicans and Democrats alike, put your partisanship away, focus on the American public," McCarthy told reporters before the vote.
And today's vote required a super majority to pass legislation, 291 Yay votes I believe.
I suspect come Monday, his gavel will be taken away.

And all you can do is bitch about someone pulling a fire alarm. Surprised they didn't shoot at the ceiling in celebration.

Rajoo 09-30-2023 06:21 PM

Come to think of it, whoever pulled the fire alarm made a brilliant move, its mocking McCarthy and he well deserved it. Only way the Dems even got to read what is in the bill was by delaying the vote by making speeches.

A truly classless clueless moron.

Ya', nothing. Got it. ;) Truly a MAGA point of view.

Looks like we will be going through this idiocy again right before Thanksgiving.

Just resign already, Kevin.

Trump-loving Elise Stefanik buried for double standard on crime: 'Unfit for public office'
https://www.rawstory.com/amp/elise-t...ard-2665773965

She’s as pathetic as our resident MAGAMoron.

Quote:

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), a key architect of a symbolic resolution to "expunge" the two impeachments of former President Donald Trump, is being called out by conservatives and liberals alike for her quick judgment on the Democratic lawmaker accused of pulling a House fire alarm.

Stefanik, who has consistently stood behind Trump despite his 91 felony charges in various districts, is also known for standing by George Santos. Santos has also been indicted for alleged felonies, and is accused of fraud and of lying about his entire background.

Despite her stance on Trump and Santos, Stefanik was quick to condemn Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who has been accused of pulling the fire alarm in order to delay a key funding vote. For his part, Bowman has claimed he didn't know that he would trigger the alarm when he pressed the door.

And, of course, your pathetic, hypocritical rush to judgment is wrong. Bowman says he thought it was a button to open a closed but normally open door, and has apologized for his mistake. I’m sure you’ll correct your asshole judgement any time now…. : rolleyes:

Nah, not likely. I don't believe Bowman for a second on this one, and neither should you.

I'll wait for the results of the internal investigation. If it was deliberate, he deserves appropriate punishment or censure. There are, however, at least 1,000 MAGAts (and their leader) who did much worse things in the Capitol on Jan 6. In fact, Bowman wasn't even in the Capitol. He was in a nearby office building.

Whether deliberate or not, he stupidly gave the GOP something to distract the MAGAts from the GOP Congressional implosion and Trump's trial in NYC. For that alone, the Democrats should punish him behind the scenes (I bet Hakeem Jeffries read him the riot act).

Whatever happened it will pale in comparison to the impending clown show of the GOP/GQP selecting a new Speaker of the House. That and their "failure to launch" (so far) impeachment hearing.
