A scant 10 percent of new cars are listed below $30k.
Americans need a $15k car and one that does not bewilder/bedeviled the mechanics.
The big boys are not interesting in building sedans. They want to sell $70k trucks which economy cannot afford.
Check the pile up of Rams at Stellantis.
No wonder the Chinese are so scary.

Manufacturers are responding to consumer demand. The average consumer simply doesn't want a sedan any more. They want a crossover utility vehicle or light truck and this is largely driven by America's low (by First World standards) gasoline prices (Gas prices average ~$3.50/gallon here and ~$8/gallon in Europe.)
As for cars bedeviling mechanics, most cars nowadays require only consumables (tires, brakes, filters, fluids) for their first 10 years (or longer). For example, my 2014 Mazda6 is now 11 years old and has only needed oil, filters, fluids, brakes and tires and still drives and looks like new - zero rust, no oil consumption, tight steering, and ample power.
