As of early August, the average price for all used vehicles in the U.S. was $28,048. The average price of a used Tesla was just $27,852, down a steep 14% year-over-year. This is a shocking development for a brand that has always commanded a premium price, especially since the market average includes budget cars. It shows a fundamental imbalance: a growing number of owners are looking to offload their Teslas, but fewer buyers are willing to step in.

The damage is brand-wide. The average used price of a Model S is down nearly 23% year-over-year. The Model X luxury SUV is down almost 16%. Even the Model Y, the world’s best-selling electric vehicle, has seen its used price drop nearly 12%.

The so called FSD offered by Tesla is a typical user funded enterprise and why Musk keeps hyping it. If I owned a Tesla, I would rather steer and control the myself rather than the FSD do it because the system is and needs to be slow since the car is making decisions based on images seen and stored. Or how about beating a red light? FSD cannot do it yet a lot of us do this all the time by stepping on the accelerator.

So all along the FSD that Musk is obsessed with is for his dream of converting privately owned as Robotaxis and so far it seems to be still stuck in the supervised mode with no breakthrough. And just two days ago, Waymo has been approved for the San Jose airport which does not have the traffic like SFO or Oakland, but still is a marquee location being in the middle of Silicon Valley. Google, Apple and Nvidia all have huge campuses here. Should sting Musk to no end especially with Tesla sales lagging.
